About Called Create
Hi, I'm Sheila.
I've always been the kind of person who looks at something and wonders how it's made—or how I might make it myself. Over the years, that curiosity has taken a lot of different forms—painting, photography, embroidery, home décor, handbag design, graphic design, and more sewing projects than I could possibly count.
The projects have changed. The way I think hasn't. I love taking an idea that only exists in my head and turning it into something real. Sometimes that's a handmade bag. Sometimes it's a design that makes another maker laugh. Sometimes it's simply solving a problem that nobody else seems to notice.
Called Create grew naturally from two parts of my life that have always been there: creating and my faith.
I've spent years making things with my hands, while my faith has quietly shaped how I see people and how I hope to encourage them.
I wanted to create designs that feel familiar to the women who wear them—designs that make them smile, feel understood, and maybe even start a conversation with another maker.
One thing I've learned is that being creative doesn't mean feeling confident at everything. I haven't made my first full-size quilt yet—but I have the pattern and all the fabric waiting for me. I've quilted table runners, baskets, and placemats, slowly building the confidence to tackle that first quilt. Truth be told, choosing the fabrics is half the fun. Finding just the right mix of prints, colors, and tones can take me weeks. Sometimes I think collecting fabric is a hobby all its own. If you're a fabric collector, you know exactly what I mean.
One project I never expected to change the course of my creativity was a simple pouch. I needed one for a magnifying mirror, couldn't find quite what I wanted, so I made one myself. That little project sparked a fascination with bag making. Before long, I was designing handbags of my own, often without a pattern—working the design out in my head and figuring out how to bring it to life one piece at a time.
One of my favorite memories was making a leather handbag for my sister. She had admired the design for a long time, and I was finally able to craft a bag just for her in her favorite combination of black leather and python-embossed leather. Watching her proudly tell people, "My sister made this," meant more to me than I can describe. Moments like that remind me that the things we make aren't really about fabric, thread, or leather. They're about the people we make them for.
That's how I feel about Called Create. Every design starts with one simple question:
Would another maker smile when she sees this?
If the answer is yes, I'm probably headed in the right direction. Whether it's a sewing joke that only another maker understands, a reminder of the creativity God has given us, or simply something beautiful to wear while doing what you love, I hope every design leaves you feeling just a little more seen.
Whether you're a quilter, sewist, embroiderer, crocheter, or simply someone who loves making beautiful things, I hope you find something here that makes you smile and think,
"Yep... that's me."
That's the heart behind Called Create.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here.
